October 20 – Chain Bridge MD/DC/VA

Vic on the Potomac at Chain Bridge Rd.

My neighbor Steve told me about a spot he remembered across the Chain Bridge where as a boy he fished shad and perch – and an occasional old tire – with his Dad.  I wanted to check it out as I’ve heard there are lots of good fishing spots on the Potomac River along Canal Rd. in MD/DC but I’ve never been.

Steve took me out Canal Rd. in Maryland to the Chain Bridge,  crossed over onto the Virginia side, and parked on the right.  At the foot of the bridge there’s a trail that is to easy to navigate if you’re a billy goat.  I managed to make it down to the water’s edge slowly  I had about about 15 casts with no hits so I guess I fished like a billy goat, too. But, it was the wrong time of day and I mainly wanted to check out the spot. I’ll be back. It’s a beautiful area and you’d never know you’re that close to D.C.

October 1 – Squirrel Fishing at Seneca Creek

by Capitol Area Fishing on October 1, 2009

Seneca Creek Aquaduct 001Went out today by the C&O canal at the Seneca Creek Aquaduct just to wet a line. I fished in the creek, right under the aquaduct itself, and in the canal on the right hand side of the trail going north. The canal was shallow with several tree stumps showing. I thought I could catch some bass in there, but instead, on the sixth or seventh cast, I caught my favorite rapala high up in a willow tree. I call this squirrel fishing.  And then it started to rain.                                                       I almost feel like one of the Redskins!
